‘To Blog or Not to Blog, That is the Question’ and I offer it with sincere apologies to Shakespeare for the misquote. Some (other) famous author once said that the act of writing required a great deal of chutzpah, since it assumed that you actually had something worth saying. Well, perhaps I do and perhaps I don’t, but that has never stopped me from opening my mouth, or typing furiously! And clearly I have decided not to let it stop me now.
I suppose there are many reasons to write a web-log but mine is very simple; to communicate with friends and family in an informal, on-going and honest manner about whatever is on my mind. I suppose I have to admit that I’m trying to create something for posterity too; something that will prove I exist, that my goals, my observations and my day-to-day life matter – with all the mess and minutiae they involve. I think many people use Facebook for this purpose, but I really don’t want my life to be spread out in that medium – way too public. And besides, it seems like a cry for affirmation if you need to tell the wider world that you just gave the dog a flea bath. A final goal – to be better known to my children. One day perhaps they will read some or all of this and see me as a fellow member of the human race, rather than ‘Mom’.
That leaves things about as wide-open as they can be. So …”Welcome to my Parlour, said the Spider to the Fly”. After all – you’re in Charlotte’s Web-Log now!!!!
